World Refugee Day 2022

World Refugee Day- Celebrating Courage and Resilience

The number of people forced to flee conflict and persecution has reached 100 million worldwide as a result of escalating conflicts and violence across countries according to the United Nations Refugee Agency.

As of November 2021, Uganda has the world’s third-largest refugee population, with over 1.5 million refugees, the majority of whom are from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan and Burundi.

Every year on June 20th, World Refugee Day is commemorated. The theme for this year is “Whoever.Wherever.Whenever. Everyone has the right to seek safety.” This translates that wherever they go, anyone seeking refuge should be welcomed.

World Refugee Day is a chance to honor the bravery and tenacity of millions of people who have been forced to flee their homes as a result of the
conflict. It is an opportunity for us as a community to promote empathy for all refugees worldwide. It is the day to shine alight on their human right to seek safety, as no one chooses to become a Refugee; rather, circumstances such as conflict, persecution, or natural or human-caused disasters force them to do so.

AFOD-Working together to empower communities.
