AFOD South Sudan – Key Program Achievements For Financial Year 2017/2017

Nutrition: AFOD SS implemented nutrition project in 6 Counties of Greater Equatoria (Juba, Terekeka and Raga Counties) and Greater Bahr el Ghazal (Wau, Raga and Jur River) funded by UNICEF and SSHF for management of severe acute malnutrition and WFP for management of moderate acute malnutrition and in patient feeding (IFP).

Food Security and Livihood (FSL): These activities were implemented in Counties of Wau and Raga funded by FAO and WFP. The projects implemented were;

  1. General food distribution: This activity was under taken in Jur River County, targeting 12,158 beneficiaries. 640MT of assorted food commodities were distributed with 50% coverage due to suspension of humantarian response by the donor for 4 months on security and safety grounds.
  2. Distribution of crop seeds through seed trade fair (ITF): Through this projec, seed crop, vegetable and farming kits were distributed to 5000 house holds (HHs).

Basic and alternative education: The education project focused on basic and alternative education (skill develol pment) in Greater Equatoria and Greater Bahr el Ghazal in 26 Counties of which 25 are supported by UNICEF and the other by WFP under food for education project. General food distribution (food for education) in Jur River County, for 11 months, January to December, 2017 benefing 5205 pupils in 27 primary schools. A total of 85MT of assorted food commodities were distributed with 50% coverage due to suspension of humantarian response by the donor for 4 months on safety grounds.

Social protection: AFOD in collaboration with ACTED implemented camp coordination and camp management in 5 collective sites in Wau Municipality (Cathedral, Nazareth, Lokoloko, St Joseph and Hai Masna) with support of IOM. 7 humanitarian coordination meetings held, 100% mapping for implementing partners in the 5 collective (5Ws in terms who is doing what, where and at what time), established complain feedback mechanism in each collective site and conducted 36 site committee in 6 months from August, 2017 to March, 2018.

Health: AFOD through program component of preventing communicable disease have dewormed total of 3400; girls 2123, boys 1146 and 131 teachers (male = 120 and female =11)


Deworming school pupils in Jur River County

AFOD conducted 32 radio talk shows and radio giggles, produced 7300 IEC materials on HIV/AID prevention, care and treatment, sexual transmitted infections reaching million people in 25 counties of Gereater Equatoria and Greater Bhar el Ghazal.

AFOD implemented HIV/AIDs prevention, care and treatment services for key population in Yambio town (Female sex workers – FSWs) with support of IntraHealth. Through the project 8 peers were trained on HIV prevention, care and treatment, reached to 250FSWs, provided 14080 packets of condom and linked 5 HIV positives to care.
